Sides   The sides are maple or rosewood, planed to thickness, bent on the bending iron, and clamped up in the jigs to dry, before being glued to the tail block and back.

Sides are planed and sanded to thickness. The sides are scribed with gentle curved tops and bottoms, to give the instruments their longitudinal domes. . Sides are then bent to shape on a bending iron, before being clamped into a mould to dry. Once the sides are dry, willow linings are glued to them to hold the back, and a tail block which hold the sides together.
