Old German domeback mandola

This is an old bowlback mandola made in Germany. It is now sound and playing well, and set up a mandola in CGDA...... it has no visible name or number.....

It has the original, semi-concert finger-board in rosewood, with 20 new frets. The spruce top is now sound with 3 shrinkage repairs. The back is sound with NO seam repairs. The tuners, bridge and tail are originals. The instrument has been completely refinished with shellac and Tru-oil, replacing the original very distressed finish. It has been strung as a mandola in CGDA, and is now playing well with a full, ringing, sonorous sound, a light action, and good sustain.

Other than cleaning, I have carried out the following work on this instrument: 1) refretted the original fingerboard; 2) repaired 3 major shrinkage cracks, and small damage to the edging; 3) refinished throughout with shellac and tru-oil varnish; 4) fitted a new nut and reffitted the bridge; 5) replaced a missing tuner button (still to paint black!); 6) strung and set up.
