Old named Italian bowl-back

This is an old, Italian bowl-back mandolin from the late19th or early 20th century. It is in good condition after restoration, and at 338mm has an unusually long scale length... There is a label which says…

Carlo Loveri & Figlio

Brevetatta Fabrica di Strumenti  Musicali Corda

Via Monte Olivero No 50

Napoli

This instrument is now fully restored. The top is sound with no repairs to the top. It has a 21-piece rosewood bowl back with 1 seam repair. It has the original fingerboard in rosewood and original frets. The tuners and tail are originals, the bridge is new. It has been refinished throughout with shellac and tru-oil.... the top has been lightly treateed with Tru-oil for protection. It has been restrung with ultra-light GHS bronze wound classical strings, and is now playing well with a clear, strong, well balanced sound, and good volume and sustain. It has an easy playing action.

Other than cleaning, I have repaired as follows… 1) re-glued loose trim 2) repaired an open seam in the bowl; 3) made and fitted a new rosewood and brass bridge; 4) refinished throughout with d Tru-oil to the top; 5) fitted a new bone nut; and 6) levelled and dressed the frets and set up.
