Old, large-bodied, French flat-back

This is an old, long scale, French flatback, from the early 20th century. It is in good condition after restoration. It has no label, though very similar to the 'Phryne' model...

This instrument is now fully restored. The top is now sound with 3 shrinkage repairs. It has a single piece, stained maple back. It has the original fingerboard set on a shim. The tuners and tail are originals, the bridge new. It has been completely refinished with shellac and tru-oil varnish. The top which has been refinished in Tru-oil. It has been restrung with light GHS bronze wound classical strings, and is now playing well with a balanced bright sound, good volume and sustain, and an easy action.

Other than cleaning, I have repaired as follows… 1) repaired 3 shrinkage cracks in the top; 2) re-varnished throughout with shellac and tru-oil; 3) replaced sound hole edging; 4) reset the fingerboard on a shim for playability; 5) refinished the top with Tru-oil varnish; 6) made and fitted a new bone nut and rosewood shelf bridge; and 7) restrung and set up.
