Old un-named Italian bowl-back

This is an old, Italian bowl-back mandolin from the early 20th century. It is in good condition after restoration. There is no longer any label…

This instrument is now fully playable after restoration. The top is sound with No repairs other than to the edging. It has a superb 27-piece fluted rosewood bowl back with one major seam repair. It has a new rosewood fingerboard and frets. The tuners, bridge and tail are originals. It has been refinished throughout but with shellac and Tru-oil. It has been restrung with ultra-light GHS bronze wound classical strings, and is now playing well with a bright ringing sound with good sustain and volume. It has an easy playing action.

Other than cleaning, I have repaired as follows… 1) repaired a long open seam in the bowl; 2) made and fitted a new semi-concert f/b in rosewood; 3) repaired damage to purfling; 4) replaced missing edging; 5) refitted the original bridge; 6) refinished throughout with shellac and tru-oil varnish; and 7) strung and set up.
