Old named Italian bowl-back

This is an old, Italian bowl-back mandolin from the early 20th century. It is in good condition after minimal restoration. There is a label which says …

Fabricca di Mandolini

Via Antonio, 22

This instrument is now fully playable after minimal restoration. The top is sound with a small repair to the centre join. It has a 23-piece rosewood bowl back with no repairs. It has a replacement rosewood fingerboard. The tuners, tail are originals, the bridge new. It retains the original finish throughout except on the top which has a coat of tru-oil for protection. It has been restrung with ultra-light GHS bronze wound classical strings, and is now playing well with a bright, ringing sound with good sustain and volume. It has an easy playing action.

Other than cleaning, I have repaired as follows… 1) replaced a thin crumbly fingerboard; 2) replaced some missing MOP; 3) repaired the open centre seam in the top; 4) finished the top with tru-oil varnish; 5) made and fitted a new rosewood bridge and bone nut; and 6) restrung and set up.
