2. Old German bowlback mandolin (815) @ 160 euros

This is an old, solidly built, mandolin from perhaps the mid 20th century, with a fairly wide fingerboard and large bowl. It is in good condition after restoration. There is a makers top-stamp which says.....

It is almost certainly German in origin.

This instrument is now fully restored and playable. The top is sound with one shrinkage repairs. It has a 21piece, stained maple bowl back and clasp, with some small repairs. The original fingerboard and bar frets are now clean and level and set on a shim. The tuners, tail and bridge are all originals. It retains much of the original finish except around repairs.. It has been restrung with light GHS bronze wound classical strings, and is now playing well with an easy action, and a deep, strong, round sound, with good sustain and volume.

Other than cleaning, I have repaired as follows… 1) levelled the f/b and frets and set on a shim; 2) repaired 2 open seams in the bowl and one shrinkage split in the top; 3) replaced several missing edging pieces; 4) touched up varnish around repairs; 5) cleaned and varnished the top with tru-oil; 6) replaced a missing tuner button; 7) refitted the bridge; 8) restrung and set up.
