2. Old German dome back mandolin (823) @ 120 euros

Old German dome-back mandolin

This is an old, German-built, dome-back mandolin, perhaps from early to mid C20th. It is in good condition after restoration. There was no makers label...

This instrument is now fully cleaned and playable. The top has been refinished, and is sound with a long shrinkage repairs. It has a 5-piece domed back in stained maple with no repairs. It has the original fingerboard and new brass frets. The tuners and tail are originals, the bridge has been refitted and I added tensioner. It has been restrung with ultra-light GHS bronze wound classical strings, and is now playing well with a pleasant well-balanced sound with good sustain and fair volume. It has an easy playing action.

Other than cleaning, I have repaired as follows; 1) repaired a shrinkage split in the top, 2) reinforce top beneath slight warping; 3) refretted the fingerboard with brass frets and levelled; 4) repaired small damage around the heel; 5) refinished the top with Tru-oil; and 6) refitted the original bridge with a new tensioner, strung and set up.
